These hand-loomed all natural
tapestries are made in San Pedro, Peru. Exquisite and colorful Andean
tapestries made from sheep's wool that is hand-dyed in Inca colors using
cochinilla (natural dyes). They are made in the town of San Pedro (located in
the Peruvian state of Huancayo), which is world famous for its textile art.
The tapestries make for an elegant decoration. Tinoco is a native of San Pedro.
Tinoco has been dedicated to the art of weaving tapestries alongside his
brothers and cousins, using the world famous style of San Pedro as his
platform. His greatest sources of inspiration are the daily lifestyles
and landscapes of his beloved San Pedro as well as the historical
capital of the Incan empire: Cuzco. The San Pedro tapestries that Tinoco
and his cousins create are beautiful tapestries that are produced through a
process called padding, which involves inserting dyed, un-spun pieces of wool
into the weave's warp. Each dyed piece of wool is individually inserted one
line at a time until the work is complete. These marvelous tapestries sell for
up to $500 in local retail stores.
